A container ship of CMA CGM experienced a container drowning accident during its voyage due to adverse weather conditions in South Africa!

On July 11, CMA CGM issued a statement regarding the incident, stating that on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the "BENJAMIN FRANKLIN" vessel of CMA CGM encountered unexpected adverse weather conditions off the coast of South Africa during its westward voyage from Asia to Europe, resulting in 44 containers falling into the water and being lost, with 30 containers on board damaged.

CMA CGM stated in a statement that no crew members were injured, no pollution was caused, and the vessel was not severely damaged in this accident. After appropriate inspection and evaluation, it has been confirmed that all containers lost at sea are loaded with harmless cargo and do not contain any risk of dangerous goods leakage.

CMA CGM stated that it has immediately notified the relevant authorities and will travel to Cape Town to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation. At the same time, all relevant and necessary measures will be taken to ensure the safety of subsequent maritime navigation.

CMA CGM will contact each customer affected by this incident one by one, share all available information, and provide the best support and assistance in the subsequent handling.

It is reported that the "BENJAMIN FRANKLIN" has been deployed by CMA CGM on the FAL1 route (the Asia Nordic route of the Ocean Alliance), docking at ports in Shanghai, Ningbo, and Yantian in China.

We would like to remind the shipper and freight forwarder that if there are any goods on board this ship, they should also pay attention to the relevant news from CMA CGM in a timely manner, understand the delay and other abnormal situations of the goods!
