Mark is an important identification of the outer packaging of goods in international trade, usually composed of model, graphic or receiving unit abbreviation, destination port, quantity or batch number, etc. Its function is to make the goods easily recognizable by relevant personnel during loading, unloading, transportation, and storage, and to prevent the occurrence of wrong shipment.

The function of the mark

The cargo mark on the port of departure documents must be consistent with the box mark, otherwise, once it encounters customs inspection, it will greatly reduce inspection efficiency and may also affect the normal shipment of goods.

The same applies at the destination port, where the destination port agent will unpack and distribute the goods based on the marking information. If the marking information is incorrect, it will affect the efficiency of backend distribution and delivery. So, the mark is still very important in logistics transportation.

Compared to goods shipped in full containers, the marking is not important and can be omitted. However, there will be an N/M mark, which is an abbreviation for NO MARKS, meaning there is no marking. It should be noted that the full container shipping invoice and packing list must display the marking for the recipient to identify the goods. If it is a general cargo ship shipment or LCL shipment, the mark must be accurately filled in, whether it is on the customs declaration form or on the unloading paper. The mark must be consistent with the mark on the outer packaging of the goods, otherwise it may cause the buyer to be unable to pick up the goods.

Marking knowledge

Marks are divided into front marks and side marks, which can be exactly the same or the front marks can be more detailed than the side marks. The regular label generally includes: customer name abbreviation or mark, order number, destination port, package number and total quantity, and production batch number. Side labels generally include: product name, specifications, quantity, gross weight, net weight, and volume.

It is worth noting that when customers provide customs declaration documents and bill of lading confirmations, they must provide the correct markings
